We can build hope. Prevent suicide.

Content warning: This page mentions suicide.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) falls on 10th September, an initiative begun by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). This is an opportunity, every year, for people across the world to join hands in support of those who have lost someone to suicide. It's an occasion to raise awareness about suicide and work toward preventing it as much as possible.

India has one of the highest rates of suicide in the world. In 2022, the rate of suicide in India rose to 12.4 per 100,000 people. That's an increase of 27% from 2018. Over 170,000 people died by suicide in 2022. These are grim numbers, but we need not lose hope.

This year, MyndStories wants to offer hope. It's something that we all need in a world racked by violence, grief, and pain these last few years.

Hope often goes last, we are told. We want to tell you not to lose that hope.

#KeepHopeAlive is our theme for this year.

Let's build hope

Suicide is preventable. With education, prevention, support, and the knowledge to foster well-being, we can help people gain confidence. We can help people support someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts. We can identify someone who is struggling.

At MyndStories, we strive to break the barriers of stigma and bring more focus to this pressing issue. Let's raise awareness together through our experiences and stories. Let's facilitate conversations.

As part of our campaign, we invite you to share your Letters of Hope. These letters can be digital or handwritten and they will make their way to someone who needs them.

We invite you to share your story, lend your support, and join our webinars and support groups. And don't forget to read, watch, and listen to the inspiring stories below.

Stories of Hope

Keep hope alive

Write a letter of hope

Help break mental health stigma and give others reasons to stay with your words. Write a letter of hope. It can be handwritten or digital. Pictures or art. Whatever you feel. Share your letter of hope with the world. We will send these across the Internet to whoever needs them or to NGOs.

Take action. Share your thoughts. Champion hope.
